The Norwayne Alumni & Friends web site was created in 2009 as a gift to the Norwayne Alumni and Friends organization by the Norwayne class of 1969 to commemorate their 40th year reunion.

The class of 1969 dedicates this site to all Norwayne Alumni & Friends. Please use and enjoy the site as a means to stay in touch with schoolmates, classmates, family and friends. We also hope that you will share information and contribute financially to the goals of The Norwayne Alumni & Friends organization.

DEATH OF NORWAYNE CLASS OF 1965 CLASSMATE

 
JANICE ARTIS

Sept. 11, 1947-Oct. 13, 2017

"In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Mother Janice Artis, 70, 1008 N. John St., peacefully succumbed to the silent halls of death Friday evening in Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

She was born Thursday, Sept. 11, 1947, in Wayne County to Wiley and Vernettie Armwood Reid Sr.

Eulogistic services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Word of Truth Christian Fellowship. Her mortal remains will be laid to rest in Wayne Memorial Park.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories one daughter, LaShonda Artis of the home; two sons, Linwood (Traron) Artis and minister Dwight (Cawania) Artis both of Goldsboro, N.C.; one sister, Rose (Robert) Artis of Goldsboro, N.C.; one brother, elder Wiley (Nancy) Reid Jr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends.

The family will receive friends during an inspirational wake Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. At other times, the family will receive friends at residence, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.

DEATH OF NORWAYNE CLASS OF 1969 CLASSMATE

 

Doreatha Peacock Wynn, 66, 108 Marshall Drive, Dudley,  a member of the Norwayne Class of 1969 and sister of Lynwood Peacock, a member of Norwayne class of 1965, died Thursday.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters. Burial will be at First Congregational United Church of Christ Cemetery.

She was born March 15, 1951, in Wayne County to Dan Scott and Hazel Mae Johnson Peacock Sr. She was married to Anthony D. Wynn of the home.

She is survived by her children.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 tonight, with the family present 6 to 7, at First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Arrangements are by J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home.
